Alternative fuels for clean cooking in rural communities

Energy is critical for human development. It allows people to access a variety of essential and simple services which comprise health, drinking water, education, transport, communication. The biomass consumption comes from firewood, charcoal and crop residues. Biomass provides all the basic needs for cooking in rural and urban households. Currently, challenges to acquisition and usage of biogas and briquette technology include low levels of awareness, limited distribution channels, limited access to financing services for biogas installations.

Last mile distribution of alternative fuel is one of the challenges to access of alternative fuels.  Scaling up access to alternative fuels (i.e. biogas digesters and briquettes) to rural communities is the goal of the project, Alternative fuels for clean cooking in rural communities supported by UNCDF. Green Heat will aim train 400 women and youths to become our women sales partners and Biogas Construction Entrepreneurs. In addition, the project results in improved household air quality, safer disposal of organic wastes, reducing health risks, improve nutrition through the application of the bio-slurry for food production.
